I did not want to go through the gyrations of showing you how to get a basic WordPress website set up, but I decided that I will for various reasons. I will show you how to get a basic WordPress website set up on your domain. It will have anything on it … yet.
But once you have a basic WordPress website set up, anyone can enter in your domain name (yourwebsite.com) into a web browser and get to your website. So, the basic WordPress website will tell you that at least your website is “reachable” by web surfers and that it can be crawled by Google and other search engines to be indexed in them.
Ways To Install WordPress
There are various ways to install WordPress on your domain. The easiest way is to log into your host provider account, go to your C-Panel, click a button and they will install it for you. I personally do not like this method because I do not know what else they will install without me knowing. Maybe nothing. But I have in the past used this method and my websites were getting unwanted pop-ups and ads. I like the control.
The second – and best method, in my opinion – is to install WordPress yourself. This is what I will teach you to do. Here are the steps …
Download the WordPress self-hosted script. It’s free!
Upload it to your domain via FTP
Within your host provider account create a WordPress database
In a web browser, navigate to your domain and finish the installation.
Once you have installed WordPress this way a few times, you will find that it is not difficult at all. Plus, it is a good skill set to have.
I will next provide the detailed steps for the WordPress installation. At the end of this article is a video that shows the installation process A to Z.
I will use GoDaddy as the hosting provider. The process is the same for all of the popular host providers.
Download The WordPress Self-Hosted Script
For the sake of being organized, create a folder on your desktop. Give it a name. Your domain name.
Go to WordPress.org and download the self-hosted script. (It will be zipped up)
If you do not have a program on your computer to unzip files, get 7-Zip, its free. Install it.
Unzip the WordPress file you downloaded. The result will be a folder named “WordPress”
Download a free FTP (File Transfer Protocol) software and install it. FileZilla is the best.
FTP the contents of the WordPress folder to your domain.
Go to your hosting provider CPanel and create a database.
Modify the wp-config-sample.php file and include the database information
Rename the wp-config-sample.php to wp-config.php and FTP it to your domain
Go to a web browser, enter your domain, and finish the installation.

In the next article, I will show you the WordPress theme I highly recommend and how to install it.
Why WRIP - Ripped Radio Smooth Jazz? Well, I love the music. For me, it is the perfect mix to drive by, to think by, to work by, to play by, and to chill by. It inspires, soothes, and quiets the soul. Enjoy! - Ronnie J.
